A person who laced sweets with tranquilliser and provided them to minors at a summer program in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offences against two boys both nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight youngsters and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She explained his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer camp which he managed.
Ruben played a "candy game" with the children, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She told the court Ruben had played this game with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She said the defendant had been able to explain this for many years as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in recently.
The prosecutor continued: "In the summer" his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, for good reason.
"They resolved" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel explained materials including infant oil, Vaseline and injection devices were located, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She stated Ruben continued to play the "sweet game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"The police had not arrived by that stage," she continued.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the incident.
The legal representative explained the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the police again.
She said Ruben then conducted the "candy game" in a area of five children.
