The anticipation surrounding The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team might be crafting a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—traits that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible by choosing a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.
The series is also notoriously permissive, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be solved in multiple ways, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
